Turn Key Solution for Student Accommodation Achieves 27 Week Completion

Pickstock Construction and Elements Europe Ltd, both members of The Pickstock Group, have collaborated to delivered a 120 bed student accommodation scheme in Lincoln for a private investor client, completing the build in just 27 weeks.   The project was delivered as a “turn key” solution with main contractor JR Pickstock using sister company Elements Europe’s Room Pod system. Now completed, the scheme will deliver much needed market leading accommodation to the City of Lincoln.

Manufactured in Shropshire, the Room Pod system provided student accommodation comprising of 120 en-suite rooms of studio apartments, cluster rooms and buddy rooms. The Room Pod system also provided, studio apartments, common rooms, staircases, corridors and roof structure. An ancillary common room, coffee shop and launderette was also provided as part of the development to offer students all their amenities under one roof.

The buildings location provided numerous challenges for main contractor JR Pickstock, with the site positioned in the heart of Lincoln constrained by its situation between two buildings and closed in at three sides, a detailed program of works was devised to optimize the build ability of the project.

“Modular construction is well suited to buildings with a high degree of repetition, meaning the Room Pod system is ideal within the care, student, hotel and residential markets. The speed of construction using our systems is also key, the time it took to complete this build with minimal disruption to the general public and local businesses would not have be possible with traditional construction methods” comments Kevin Arthur, Sales Director at Elements Europe.
