Elements Europe take the Ty Unnos Modular system

Picture of the two storey house built in less than 12 hoursTY Unnos Modular – a two-storey house built in less than 12 hours – will be the centre of attention at Grand Designs Live at the Birmingham NEC from October 9-11.

Elements Europe, the Oswestry based offsite construction experts, partnered with the Shropshire Constructing Excellence Club to build the house in the grounds of Telford College of Art & Technology in June.

Now it is to take up a prime position in the centre of the Grand Village at the three day exhibition when the very latest and most cutting edge house will be open for visitors to explore.

So-called because of its Welsh timber frame superstructure and the speed of its construction, Ty Unnos literally translates from Welsh as ‘House Overnight’.

Made from low-density timber – usually used for non-structural applications like pallets, packaging and fencing, Ty Unnos is very lightweight and yet exceptionally strong. A unique laminating process and clever beam, column and joist arrangements result in a sturdy, load-bearing structure.

The Grand Village is one of the most exciting halls in the exhibition and is at the NEC for the first time ever this year, following its success at Grand Designs’ London show.

Visitors can explore the latest conceptual, eco-friendly and sustainable structures on show and experience first hand a fully furnished show home offering workable solutions for sustainable living

“Ty Unnos is a quality modular alternative system with the capability to provide residential accommodation for the private, social and affordable housing sectors,” said Project Manager Kevin Arthur.

“Particular interest is being shown from the affordable housing market sector, due to the sector’s current lack of supply. Ty Unnos can offer the delivery of high quality, affordable accommodation to the market. The product ticks all the right boxes,” he added.

“It offers the purchaser the highest factory manufactured quality while exceeding the government’s parameters for sustainable development”

“Ty Unnos will make a real difference in the provision of affordable properties and the timing could not be better as the property market begins to see signs of improvement.”

“The house is truly accessible to everybody, even first time buyers starting at £68,000 for a one bedroom apartment.

“And it isn’t just the buying price which is attractive but energy bills for an entire year will cost substantially less due to how energy efficient the house is,” he added.

Elements Europe will also be exhibiting Roompod – a fully integrated and structurally load bearing volumetric modular solution for applications up to 12 storeys. Roompod is a radical product concept, pushing the boundaries of pod technologies for the hotel, student and care home accommodation sectors
