Phase 2 of The Maltings, Colchester is Well Underway
Following the occupation of all 381 rooms in Phase 1 of The Maltings student accommodation scheme on King Edwards Quay in Colchester, Pickstock Construction has now remobilised Phase 2.
Phase 2 is a carbon copy of the first and will complete the development, offering a total of 779 rooms for students studying at the University of Essex, located close by.
Structural work on Phase 2 has already taken place in line with Phase 1. Piling is complete, the concrete podium deck is constructed and external drainage is in place. Four concrete cast-in-situ stair/lift cores are now being installed.
Elements Europe will manufacture a further 398 room modules made up of one bed flats, studios and en-suite bedrooms for the scheme, including all stair cores and roof structures. Elements Europe will also manufacture communal kitchens to accompany shared flats.
Delivery and installation of the modules will commence at the end of February 2015.
Russell Parry, Factory Manager commented “With the two phases combined, this is the largest student accommodation scheme that Elements Europe has undertaken to date. We look forward to delivering the modules for the final phase.”
The Maltings will be complete by August 2015 and be ready for occupation of new student’s mid-September.
