SiFi Networks and Town of Westerly Press Ahead to Get Gigabit Internet
The Town of Westerly, Rhode Island, has selected SiFi Networks as its partner after the company was thought to have not just met but significantly exceeded the goals of the RFP process. The next steps will see the Town structure an exclusive negation agreement for council approval.
SiFi Networks proposes to fund, build, operate and maintain a gigabit ready network throughout the Town bringing greater choices and prices to the community.
The team at SiFi Networks have an in-depth knowledge and experience of funding, constructing, designing and operating networks. Westerly looks set to be the first in Rhode Island but whilst they shall be on the leading edge in the area, many communities like Westerly have had great success already bringing fiber optics to their communities as it becomes an increasing vital utility.
SiFi Networks’ Co-Founder Mike Harris has developed many Fiber to the Home networks with world leading experience in setting up open access platforms where many service providers can reach their customers over the same fiber optic cable.
“Having been in the telecommunications industry for the past 30 years we have in-depth knowledge of designing and operating true open access networks which allow for one or more Internet Service Providers to deliver services at competitive prices for the whole community” Commented Mike Harris Co-Founder at SiFi Networks.
“SiFi Networks’ FiberCity™ provides a future proof communications infrastructure which shall last generations enabling a vital platform for economic growth drawing new entrepreneurs to the community and securing existing business” added Harris.
The Fiber to the Home network developer has been working in the Municipal broadband market since 2012, its patented technology has been successfully deployed in Wichita. The premise of the model is for the Town and SiFi Networks to work together not to compete with the private sector but to enable true competition over a common infrastructure. SiFi Networks will fund, build and maintain the network meaning the Town won’t have to draw on additional staff or carry risks for operations, the Town will then license access to the network from SiFi Networks and in turn license that access onto Internet Service Providers (ISPs) generating revenue for the Town.
