Spoonley Farm Wins Second Place at LABC Awards
The Pickstock Group received second place at the LABC Building Excellence Awards for the development at Spoonley Farm in Llansantffriad.
The LABC Building Excellence Awards are all about the essence of well-constructed buildings. According to LABC the finalists are not judged on architectural beauty, but on the “excellence” shown from a construction and technical building control point of view. The awards showcase buildings and design teams that have had to tussle with technical issues, difficult sites, and have provided innovative and creative solutions.
Spoonley Farm, which was also named the winner at the Powys Building Control Excellence Awards 2013, comprises of 3, 4, 5 bedroom homes. The residential scheme saw Pickstock Construction and JRoss Developments ltd work together to deliver 70 residential units as well as the reconstruction of the village shop.
“Even to be listed as a finalist for the LABC awards is a privilege so to receive second place is fantastic. Spoonley Farm involved the assembly of land belonging to two different owners, we also had to re-design and construct the infrastructure which serves the local village including the construction of a new roundabout” says Dan Jones, Project Manager at Pickstock Construction.
“A site like this involves a great deal of additional work before the construction on-site begins. In addition to the provision of new infrastructure we also needed to perform geotechnical investigations and resolve ground stability issues.” Adds Dan Jones.
Construction has now commenced on Cae Vyrnwy which will see the delivery of 12 new homes adjacent to Spoonley Farm.
